When it is released into a paintball marker it expands and forces paintballs out of the barrel at high speed. Air Ball - More often used for tournament play, the field consists of vinyl infaltable bunkers of various shapes and sizes. Games typically last less than 5 minutes and emphasis is placed on quick movement and fast shooting. Air Pressure - The amount of pressure exerted on the inside of a tank or gun by theair inside it. It is typically measured in pounds per square inch (psi). Agitated Hopper - A battery-powered hopper with a motor attached to a paddle that helps feed paintballs smoothly into the marker. ASA - Air Source Adapter - The female threaded adapter that allows you to screw your air tank into your marker. Barrel Plug - A protective device that fits in the end of a barrel and physically prohibits a paintball from leaving the barrel accidentally. Barrel Sock - (also known as a barrel condom) A protective device that fits around the end of a barrel and physically prohibits a paintball from leaving the barrel accidentally. Beaver Tail - A protective device that surrounds the bolt of a blowback paintball gun. It is designed to keep fingers away from the rapidly moving bolt and to prevent unwanted interference with the bolt. Blind Fire - Not looking in the direction of what you are shooting at resulting in by-standers or referees being shot without cause. Bore - The size of the diameter of a gun barrel. BPS - Balls Per Second; the number of paintballs that a marker can fire in one second. Bunker - Any stationary, man-made device that players are able to hide behind during a paintball game. Bunkers can be as complex as custom-designed, inflatable walls or as simple as a pile of sticks pushed up against a tree. Bunkering - The act of shooting someone at close range by running up to their bunker and shooting over or around it to eliminate them. Burst - 3-shot Burst - A setting on many electronic paintball guns that causes the gun to fire three times with a single pull of the trigger. Capture The Flag - A game of paintball where opposing teams try to gain control of the opposing team's flag and return it to their own base. Carbon Dioxide (CO2) - A gas that is stored in high pressure tanks in its liquid form. When it is released into a paintball marker it expands and forces paintballs out of the barrel at high speed. Center Flag - A variation of capture the flag where opposing teams try to capture a single flag in the center of the field and then either return it to their own base. Chrono/Chronograph -Instrument used to measure the speed of a paintball as it leaves the barrel of a marker. Measured in Feet Per Second. Cock/Recock - The act of readying a paintball marker to fire. It consists of moving the bolt away from the firing chamber and readying it to move forward when activated by the trigger. The first time a gun is cocked is typically done manually but subsequent cocking is performed automatically as part of the firing cycle of the marker. Death - The result of the elimination of a person. Also know as a Kill or a G. Diameter - The width of a paintball at its thickest point. Dry Firing - The act of shooting a paintball marker without paintballs in it. Elbow -Connection piece between the feedneck of the marker and the hopper. It can be straight or bent at 45 degrees. Elimination - When a player has been hit or marked by a paintball that breaks on their body or equipment. Once a player is eliminated, they must then leave the playing field. Eyes - Electronic devices that will not allow a paintball gun to fire until a paintball is completely loaded into the chamber, thus reducing the risk of misfired or shopped paintballs. Feed Neck - A small tube that projects from the chamber of a marker and is where you feed paintballs into a marker. FPS - Feet Per Second; used to measure the speed of a paintball as it leaves the barrel of a marker. G - The result of the elimination of a person. Also know as a Kill or a Death. Goggles - Protective device that covers the face, mouth and ears of a paintball player. Designed to stop paintballs from damaging soft tissue on the head. Hopper - A container that fits on top of a paintball marker and feeds paintballs into the marker. Hyper-Ball - A form of speedball played with bunkers that are made of large black corrugated tubing, either standing or lying on it's side alone, with two or more tubes or stacked. Kill - The result of the elimination of a person. Also know as a G or a Death. Marker - Paintball gun - An air powered device that is used to shoot paintballs. Mask - Protective device that covers the face, mouth and ears of a paintball player. Paintball masks are designed to stop paintballs from damaging the soft tissue of the head. Overshoot - Continually firing at someone even after they have been eliminated. Paintball - A non-toxic, paint filled ball made of gelatin that can be fired from a paintball marker and breaks on contact with other surfaces. Paintball Gun - Marker - An air powered device that is used to shoot paintballs. Pump - A variety of paintball gun that must be manually re-cocked beween shots. This is performed by moving a handle or grip forward then backwards along the barrel of the marker. PSI - Pounds per Square Inch- The amount of pressure exerted on the inside of a tank or gun by theair inside it. The emphasis is movment, stealth and one shot kills. Scenario Paintball - A variety of woodsball where many players come together with specific objectives such as capturing and defending flags for long periods of time or reenacting famous battles and different themes such as Axis and Alies or Aliens and Marines. Speedball - Played on a flat, small enclosed field with man-made bunkers. Games typically last less than 5 minutes and emphasis is placed on quick movement and fast shooting. Waiver - WCPPL - Wiping - Woodsball - Played outdoors, typically in natural settings such as forests and mountains. Wristband - Velocity - The rate of speed a paintball leaves the barrel of a marker. Measured in Feet per Second.
